Dear Students,

Congratulations on your scholarship to study in the United States! The Placement Department in the Cultural Office in Los Angeles is looking forward to assist 2017-2018 scholarship students with the following: application process to approved schools, authentication of their admission documents, and registration with our office. Please review the below information as it applies to your scholarship and future studies in the United States.

A. STATES UNDER THE JURISDICTION OF THE CULTURAL OFFICE, LOS ANGELES

Please contact our Placement Department if you will begin your studies in one of the following states:

Undergraduate students sponsored by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE): Are assigned to a placement advisor based on the first letter of their first name. If your first name begins with:

C. PLACEMENT PERIOD

Our office receives a high volume of emails and phone calls during the release of the scholarship lists (June - November). It may not be possible to immediately respond to your emails and/or calls during this time; however, be assured that we are handling each request in the order in which it was received and we will respond as soon as possible (allow at least 5-7 business days for an email response). Please avoid sending multiple emails as it may further delay our processing times. We thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation during this process.

D. ENGLISH LANGUAGE (ESL) PROGRAM RESTRICTIONS

The maximum number of students allowed to enroll in each English language program at any given time is 50. Schools will be ‘closed/restricted’ once the maximum enrollment is reached. We strongly recommend that students apply to several English language programs to have other options in case their preferred school has reached maximum capacity.

F. ACCESS TO YOUR DAYRAH PROFILE – MINISTRY OF HIGHER EDUCATION

Students sponsored by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE): In order to process all of your requests, you must provide our office with access to view your profile/account in the Ministry’s Online Academic System Dayrah E-Services website. Please click here and kindly ensure that your Dayrah profile is assigned to the Cultural Office-Los Angeles.

The following documents must be uploaded to your Dayrah profile (in PDF format):

  • Valid Kuwaiti passport
  • Kuwaiti Civil ID card
  • Complete high school transcripts (year 9-12, translated to English)
  • Certificate of Completion of Secondary Stage (translated to English and certified by the Ministry of Education)
  • IGCSE/GCSE certificates (for students graduating from British-system high school)
  • AS/A-Level certificates (for students graduating from British-system high school)
  • Equivalency Certificate issued by the General Administration for Private Education Department at Ministry of Education (if graduated from private high school in Kuwait or any school outside of Kuwait)
  • Authorization to Represent and Release Information Form – click here
  • Immunization records (with specific dates of vaccinations received and certified by Ministry of Health)
  • TOEFL/IELTS score (if applicable)
  • SAT/ACT scores (if applicable)

G. ADMISSION TO AN ENGLISH LANGUAGE (ESL) AND/OR ACADEMIC PROGRAM

Our office is happy to assist you in finding an approved program that is compatible with your talents and goals, and helping you in completing your applications (ex. issuing a prospective financial support letter, submitting supporting documents, following up with university officials, etc). Please contact your placement advisor for assistance.

If you have applied to an approved English language or Academic program and require a Prospective Financial Support Letter (PFSL) to complete your application, please provide your placement advisor with the documents listed below. If the program/university is open and approved, our office will submit the Prospective Financial Support Letter directly to the program/university within 7-10 business days of receiving the required documents. If any further information or documents are needed to process your request, your placement advisor will notify you via email.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR ISSUING PFSL (ESL PROGRAM):

  • Copy of passport
  • Proof of application/application confirmation email from the program or university: must indicate the name of the program and program start date

  • Copy of passport
  • Proof of application/application confirmation email from the program or university: must indicate the name of the program, program start date, and major

H. AUTHENTICATION OF YOUR ADMISSION DOCUMENTS

Upon receiving your admission documents from your program/university, please email clear PDF copies of the following required documents to your placement advisor:

  • Passport
  • Page #1 of your I-20
  • Official admission letter
  • High school transcripts (year 9-12, translated to English)
  • TOEFL/IELTS score

MOHE scholarship students: Your authenticated admission documents will be uploaded to your Dayrah profile after 7-10 business days of receiving all required documents.

Non MOHE-sponsored students: Your authenticated admission documents will be sent directly to your sponsor after 7-10 business days of receiving all required documents.

I. REGISTRATION WITH THE CULTURAL OFFICE

Students must register with our office upon their arrival in the United States to receive health insurance, official financial support and verification of income letters (if applicable per sponsorship), monthly allowance (if applicable per sponsorship), and to be assigned to an academic advisor with our office.

REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Send scanned copies of the required registration documents directly to your placement advisor.
  • Submit your registration documents only after you have arrived in the United States, do not send your documents while you are still in Kuwait.
  • Send all of your documents together in one (1) email and in PDF format. Kindly ensure that your documents are clear and legible.

J. OTHER PROGRAM/UNIVERSITY REQUIREMENTS

Please remember to thoroughly read your I-20, admission letter, and all other documents included in the admission package that you receive from your ESL program/university for the following information: program start dates, placement exam dates, mandatory orientation dates, health waiver deadlines, immunization record requirements, and other program/university requirements and deadlines.

Students are responsible for completing waivers and document submissions by set university deadlines.
